Hello there! I am The Amazing American. I prescreen and rate popular books for my family such as wof and Kotlc. I enjoy reading opinions/comments or discussing differing opinions from others.
I honestly just want to read books without being force fed a message that I cannot agree with as a catholic

I try to be fair, I do a lot of research into what makes a good book and great character arcs. I also look at the moral/message of the books.
Book things that annoy me greatly
1. Shallow character arcs
2. Forced Love or relashionships that have nothing that add to the plot (Love interests are supposed to change the character, if the love can be removed from the book then its pointless and shouldn't be there)
3. Mary Sue Girlbosses (I've read too many, give me a new girlboss, not one who can do EVERYTHING)
4. Not planning out the world (If you can't take me to a world far far away and explain it, then why am I bothering to read about it?)
5. Books on characters who don’t need one (FILLER BOOKS!!!)
6. Useless generic, or unspecified magic system. (If it can be manipulated to fix any plot hole or problem in a story then its what I call Magic Plot Hole Duct Tape. saying "Its magic" is like saying "It just works"
I am writing my own stories so I do know how much work goes into a novel, I do appreciate all the hard work other authors put in, but at the same if you're going to do a job, do it write (Pun intended)
If the book can be summed up by this quote then we have a problem. "A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest."
